Welcome to The Hague

This year, we do not have any ‘block bookings’ in hotels for FEATS visitors and participants.

We’ve put together this list of hotels in The Hague. We recommend you use your preferred hotel booking system, or contact the hotels directly. Prices may vary.

The Hague has many different hotels in and around the city centre. Both theaters, Diligentia and PePijn, are located centrally – the list above shows the distance to Diligentia.

Accomodation

The Hague boasts an excellent public transport system.

Over 30 bus and tram lines will take you quickly and safely to your destination in and around The Hague. You can find out all the up to date transport information using this link.

The OV-chipcard is the most common system of paying for transport throughout The Netherlands, but buses and trams journeys can also be paid for using regular bank cards.

All reputable and legal taxi services in The Hague have BLUE number plates. This means that they are registered services. Please ensure that you only get into a taxi with a blue number plate!

Transport

The Hague is a lovely city and there’s plenty to see and do!

Of course, you’ll be focusing most of your time on FEATS, but if you’re planning to spend a few days in town, then there are a few sights which you really MUST do!

For museum lovers, we recommend the Mauritshuis museum, Escher in the Palace, and the Mesdag Panorama - all walking distance from the theatre.

For those wanting to get away from the cultural scene for a while, check out this site, which features a number of walking tours, bike tours and canal cruises. Another favourite is the beach - head to Scheveningen for a bite authentic kibbeling, or if you have time for a lazy lunch, hit the strand tenten!

Administrative questions information on the city can be found at www.denhaag.nl.

Theater Diligentia

“Oh oh Den Hag mooie stad achter de duinen
De Schilderswijk de Lange Poten en het Plein
Oh oh Den Hag ik zou met niemand willen ruilen
Meteen gaan huilen als ik geen Hagenees zou zijn.”

Oh oh Den Hag beautiful city behind the dunes
The Schilderswijk de Lange Poten and the Square
Oh oh Den Hag I wouldn't trade places with anyone
I'd immediately start crying if I wasn't Hagenees

- Harrie Jekkers and Harry Klorkestein

Eating out

The Hague is home to a very diverse range of places to eat. It is a melting pot of many cultures and this is reflected in the cuisine on offer. For a traditional taste of The Netherlands, make sure that you try Bitterballen and Kibbeling. These bar snacks can be found almost everywhere you go – morning, noon or night (they’re not vegetarian).

Close by the theatre, you will find many restaurants that offer ‘Pre-theatre dinners’ at reasonable prices. A short 5 minute stroll away from the theatre is the popular and busy ‘Plein’, which has many eating and drinking establishments where you can sit in the sunshine (hopefully!) and watch the world go by. Further into the city centre, you will find a large amount of reasonably priced restaurants.

Outside of the city centre, towards the beach, is Scheveningen. This busy seaside resort and harbour is home to lots of seafront bars and restaurants. Check out some of the famous ‘Strandpaviljoens’ (beach front establishments) for a relaxed afternoon in the sun.

For a sample of some the places to try out, go Darice’s Good Food Guide. Looking for somewhere or something specific? Ask one of our hosts or hostesses for their recommendation.
